Register for the Great Aussie Camp Out (GACO) - 17 April 2010 (back to topics)
GACO                  Are you doing the GACO???

On 17 April 2010, the Great Aussie Camp Out (GACO) will bring together thousands of Australians across the country for one big night where they will share the experience of camping out under the stars …in their back yards, on a river bank, at a campsite, a National park, a caravan park.... in fact, anywhere they might (legally) feel like!

People will be encouraged to stay at a residential camp or caravan park, pitch a tent in their own back yard, sleep under the stars, fire up the barbie, organise some games and become involved and reminded of the simple, sustainable pleasures to be found through camping.

ORIC is encouraging the support of organisations across NSW to support GACO, to host activities or events, to open up their campsite and encourage their communities to get out into outdoors and experience a night under canvas!

Caving Equipment Ban Overturned (back to topics)

NSW cavers will be relieved to know the NSW Legislative Council voted to abolish the ban on possessing so-called "caving and cave diving equipment" in some parks.

Workplace injuries are a surprisingly common occurrence across NSW, with over 30,000 injuries reported each year which resulted in someone being off work for five or more days. Given that this figure is limited to reported injuries only, it comes as no surprise to learn that Paramedics attend to even more workplace injuries on an annual basis.

The Ambulance Service of New South Wales (Ambulance) has launched a campaign supported by WorkCover to address this issue, which potentially affects hundreds of employees on a daily basis. The ‘Access for Life’ workplace awareness campaign has been rolled out across the state.
