National Outdoor Summit

The recently held National Outdoor Summit was proposed to provide Government, private and community-based organisations with an opportunity to engage in dialogue required to ensure the necessary facilities, access and resources be available to enable outdoor activity activities to remain as a valued and sustainable part of our outdoor culture and industry.

Held at Riverglenn earlier this month, and attended by ORIC representatives, this Summit brought together representatives from across Australia, with the aim of consolidating efforts to ensure that outdoor adventure activites are recognised and valued as a significant contributor, providing educational, social, economic, physical and psychological benefits and a potential solution to some societal health issues.

National and State peak bodies, State government agencies, industry leaders and stakeholders conferred over the two days, to collaboratively devise a National Outdoor Strategy that will help raise the profile of outdoor activities and environments on government agendas, and to present as "one voice" the diverse organisations involved in the provision of outdoor adventure activities.

The OCA developed a Discussion Paper which detailed current and emerging trends, issues and policies relevant to outdoor adventure activities, which contributed to the identification of possible solutions, a plan of action for a national agenda and the development of a National Outdoor Strategy.

Meeting outcomes are currently being collated and reviewed by attendees, and willl then go out as a draft document for feedback to the ORIC members and the broader industry sector.
