Using
a climbing wall to teach goal setting
This video shows some of the concepts that can
be facilitated to teach goal setting while utilising a climbing wall
as the teaching medium. Have students attempt a traverse of a
climbing wall. Monitor where they fall off. Now challenge them to
identify their weaknesses, and to work on these until they become
strengths. With this perseverance and persistence will come improved
performance, and they should get further along the wall. Just like
life!

Facilitating
A Caving Experience
This video gives a snapshot of facilitating a
caving experience. Students explore the cave which initially looks
too difficult to head down further into the cave. Students finally
get the courage to squeeze down a narrow passage. When they thought
all the stress was done their headlamps were taken off them and they
had to find their way out in the dark. Facilitating the caving
experience towards mental skills to overcome self-doubt is
demonstrated.

Edge
Work Facilitation
This video snippet shows how an outdoor
education leader can facilitate a learning experience. This technique
is known as edgework; the student is under pressure and at the edge
of their comfort zone. Through appropriate facilitation the student
is guided to his courage zone and has a breakthrough into a realm of
a new belief in themselves.
