NPWS Commercial Activities Licensing Review
Discussion Paper

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) have completed a discussion paper outlining a proposal for a new streamlined state wide licensing system.  This discussion paper incorporates the comments and views of licensed commercial tour operators and interested stakeholders received during workshops and an online survey conducted in 2006.

The discussion paper outlines proposals that seek to create a licensing system that protects the values of parks and reserves, delivers quality products and visitor experiences and meets the needs of the tourism and recreation sector. Specifically the paper deals with proposals that cover the following issues:

  • definitions of who should be licensed
  • the application process and approval process
  • types of licenses
  • license conditions
  • license terms
  • license fee structure
  • management of high visitation or areas with sensitive cultural & environmental values
  • encouraging good performance, professionalism and higher operating standards

The discussion paper has now been released for public comment and may be downloaded from NPWS-Licensing Review.
