Quad Bikes for Fun & Games
but Not Weed Control

Under NSW Government redtape, the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has blocked the registration/conditional permits of quad bikes used for week control and surveillance, Shadow Primaty Industry Minister Duncan Gay said.

"The RTA allows permits for primary producters, for recreational activities at beaches, for Surf Life Saving Clubs, National Parks & Wildlife Services (NPWS) and Rual Lands Protection Boads (RLPBs) - but not local control authorities trying to control weeds," he said.

He said it was outrageous that permits were given "to people wanting to use quad bikes on Stockton Beach for recreational purposes but not local councils trying to stem the cost weeds have on agricultural production, which is $600 million in NSW".

"Local control authorities use the bikes for property inspections, the mapping of infestations, roadside control and roadside surveillance."
