Presentation
ARE WE SAFE? PROBABLY NOT, BUT SO WHAT?
Risk management is not about being safe it is about dealing with uncertainty that may impact upon your objectives.  That impact may be positive or negative.

We encourage people to go outdoors to learn, to grow and to develop, at times this may involve some risk of physical harm, but to stop doing may have  greater risk of a life not lived, of obesity, ill-health and lost opportunities. The risk of physical harm is just one aspect of a range of issues in risk management.

Drawing upon data on hospital admissions and coroner's statistics for sport and recreation incidents Tracey will discuss:

  • should we be safe?;
  • how do we compare with other sport and recreation activities?; and
  • what data do we need to collect to be able to learn and manage the risk of physical harm while maximising the benefits of being outdoors.
