LEAVE NO TRACE - An underlying philosophy for all Outdoor Recreation Industries
Human impacts on the natural and cultural heritage values throughout Australia through economic development, recreation, travel, and tourism pressures are increasing.
Fire, invasive species, feral animals and ‘people pressure’ including inappropriate waste disposal, are collectively causing significant damage to these values. Future projections show there will be significant increases in the number of people living, working and recreating throughout Australia; this predicted increase is coupled with further deterioration of the regions’ significant natural and cultural diversity.
The National Sustainable Tourism Strategy has identified the Leave No Trace program as an important tool for implementing the behavioral change required to ensure that those who live, work or visit an area have the ‘tools’ to look after it.
This presentation outlines the “Leave No Trace Australia” (LNTA) program and why this program should be utilised by all Outdoor Recreation Industries.
Leave No Trace is an educational, non-profit organisation dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors by all people. We work across community sectors to provide a consistent, easy to understand education program that outlines minimal impact training for specific activities (ranging from fishing to rock climbing).
Through partnerships, LNTA aims to work with motivated individuals, groups, non-profits, Industry and governmental agencies to effectively use the Leave No Trace program to reduce human impacts on sensitive natural and cultural environments. |
