USING TRACK NOTES AND GUIDE BOOKS TO PROMOTE A CULTURE OF BUSHWALKING IN AUSTRALIA

Guide books have long played a vital role in developing walking cultures around the world. With the information age upon us, now is the time to better use this resources in Australia.

This session will be an opportunity to talk about how we can use track notes and guide books in outdoor recreation to help improve access and further develop a culture of sustainable bushwalking in Australia.

It will explore how we can use different sources of information for

  • Inspiration,
  • Preparation,
  • Education,
  • Navigation, and
  • Reflection,

to enrich the walker's experience of the outdoors whilst building up the outdoor recreation industry as a whole.

It will look at the growing variety of handy web and print based resources that you can use in your role.

Biography

 

Matt has a passion for encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors. He has studied and worked in the Outdoor Education and Recreation industry for over 10 years with youth at risk, people with disabilities, and in corporate settings.

After 5 years in a suit developing corporate experience in Pitt st, Matt has returned to the outdoor world and is building Wildwalks.com, an online resource designed to help more people get out and enjoy bushwalking in Australia.
