NO PROPS TO NO FLOPS

Practical, interactive program which will present a series of great activities and games which teachers and outdoor education and recreation providers can use and integrate into their curriculum for the purposes of building self-esteem, team skills or simply to have fun.

Emphasis on interaction, fun and critical program design principles. The program will reflect much of the Project Adventure philosophies, and naturally feature lots of the new games and activities Mark has picked up over the years.

This session will engage you with

  • Presentation of ice-breakers, de-inhibitizers, trust exercises, and initiatives,
    that have universal appeal are high energy and interactive;
  • Mix of low-equipment and no-prop activities;
  • Explore critical program design skills; and
  • Reveal a successful three-step sequencing model.

The program will be TONS of fun, but will especially motivate program providers to value the integration of adventure into their curriculum to develop the leadership, teamwork and communication skills of their participants.

TEACHABLE MOMENTS

In this interactive session, Mark will deliver a series of activities that will examine “teachable moments,” those moments in a program that are often overlooked because they are considered “too hard” or are simply not observed.

The key to this session will be a discussion about how to spot these “teachable moments,” and then what to do with them.

Mark will present a mix of interactive and fun activities into the session that will add to your repertoire, as much as provide fodder for discussion.

Mark will demonstrate

  • Presentation of ice-breakers, co-operative games and group problem-solving activities;

  • Discussion of the nature of “teachable moments;” and

  • Explore a simple, successful three-step process to facilitate “teachable moments.”
Biography Mark is an international facilitator for Project Adventure Inc, and has worked as a Senior Trainer for Project Adventure Australia for 10 years, and now operates as a free-lance facilitator throughout Australia, USA and south-east Asia.

Mark has been struck by lightning twice, can’t back-up a car towing a trailer to save himself and has camped on the lawns of Australia’s Parliament House for three days (as part of a logging protest).

He is the author of the popular adventure activity book “No Props: Great Games with No Equipment”, and has just finished writing his latest activity book “No Flops: Sure Fire Activities for BIG Groups” which is due to be released in late 2008.

Mark calls Melbourne home,where he lives with his beautiful wife in a mud-brick home in Melbourne’s outer east. When he isn’t playing delivering programs, he’s pursuing a voice-over career and dreaming of hosting his own TV show, but he counts his time devoted to adventure programming as some of the most rewarding and funnest times of his life!
