pdf BALANCING ADVENTURE AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING INTO VOCATIONAL EDUCATION, THEORY, PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT, WORK ETHIC AND SELF RESPONSIBILITY

This presentation will explore adventure and experiential learning as a balance within the frameworks of education, work ethos, personal development and responsibility.

It will also examine how to balance adventure education with dynamic risk related programs for incarcerated young adult offender males and females.

The vehicle for the presentation involves the design and operation of the Gurnang Life Challenge program.

Biography

Dennis has been involved in outdoor adventure therapy and developmental programs direct since 1988, firstly with Police Youth Clubs, Department of Juvenile Justice and with adult Corrections since 1992.

He designed and manages a Specialised Young Adult Offender program for male and female young adult offenders.

In a previous life, Dennis had a combined military Navy and Airforce career for 26 yrs, principally in combat survival and adventure and developmental training programs.

Dennis has won many awards, though the one he says he is most proud of is ORIC Outstanding Achievement in Community.
