COMMUNICATING RISK TO PARENTS: Looking at recent research, literature & practical examples for improving risk communication processes

Have you, or your organisation/school critically analysed your risk communication processes?

Can parents really make an 'informed' decision about their child's participation?

Do you actively involve them in these processes, including their perceptions and understandings of risk?

Clare will explore these concepts through evaluating the risk communication literature and the findings of recent research which investigated how Victorian schools were currently communicating about risk to parents in order for parents to provide informed consent for their child's participation in outdoor education programs.

Practical examples will be provided as well as strategies to improve risk communication processes.
