"I am over the hill at 51 years of age and have been involved in the outdoors since I was 11, when I joined Scouts – I wear that funny blue shirt with all the badges.
I have interests in photography and exploration. And have been fortunate to travel to most parts of Australia, New Zealand and recently two trips to China, several to Bali and Thailand.
My outdoor skills have been as instructor or higher in most of the Rock Sports, Abseiling Caving Canyoning; Water Sports in Kayaking on most of the rivers of NSW, Ski Touring in the Snowy Mountains and Victoria, and a little bit of walking around the place including Tasmania.
I am currently a volunteer member of Scouts Australia and hold the position of State Commissioner Activities – the State Manager of Activities. I also sit on a few in house committees including our Risk Management Committee (Scoutsafe).
All activities are vested in the Chief Commissioner on NSW, and operationally I control the policies and implementation within. We offer a wide ranging program from Water Activities to General Aviation. We are an RTO and supply accredited outcomes to our members and others. I am an assessor and when allowed (by my wife) an Assistant Leader Trainer.
Achievements of recent note include our involvement with DECC and are updating to our existing MOU with them and the good working relationship with land managers and government departments – (many former Scouts).
Other items of project management include in 2006 I was the Activity director for the 13th Australian Venture – a small camp for 900 youth members from Australia and South East Asian countries. The program was over 10 days and took four years to plan and develop and we gave the kids a blast of a time.
I am currently gearing up for a Jamboree in 2010 – where we will be camping about 10,000 kids and a few thousand leaders for a 10 day program. I have a small role in the program Directorate – just one of the directors.
My business life keeps busy at a small phone company called Telstra – working to build the Next G phone network.
My modest academic achievements include Diploma in Engineering Surveying, Cert IV in Business & Leadership & Cert Iv in Assessment and Workplace Training. I am trying to find the time to upgrade to TAA soon.
So that’s me I am a busy person trying to grow Scouts Australia and keep our members safe and continue the opportunities to recreate in the outdoors."
